QL2 Software Welcomes
Dr. Nicholas Kushmerick as Chief Scientist
QL2 Continues its Team Expansion
SEATTLE — September 13, 2006 — QL2 Software, the leading provider of data extraction and integration tools and solutions, is pleased to announce that Dr. Nicholas Kushmerick, Ph.D., has joined QL2 Software as Chief Scientist. Dr. Kushmerick will focus on extending QL2's technology in reach, capabilities and flexibility. Additionally, Dr. Kushmerick will represent QL2 Software as the primary market place, product and technology trends expert with speaking engagements in the US, Europe and around the world.
"Nick is joining the company at an exciting time and is a great addition to the team." said Greg Lauckhart, CTO of QL2 Software. "QL2 will heavily leverage Nick's background in web data extraction, data integration and computational linguistics, as we continue to expand our portfolio of innovative product offerings."
From 1998 to 2006, Dr. Kushmerick served on the faculty of the School of Computer Science and Informatics at University College Dublin. During this time, Dr. Kushmerick organized a conference on applying information extraction and machine learning technology in the Semantic Web content. In the same year he and colleagues from IBM won a best-paper award at the 2005 International Conference on Intelligent User Interfaces for their patent-pending algorithms to mine the structure of email activities. This research received considerable press attention, including articles in MIT Technology Review and Technology Research News.
As a result of his extensive research in web data extraction, Dr. Kushmerick developed a patented algorithm used to automatically generate patterns for Web data extraction. This technology was later expanded to learn patterns for extracting data from natural language text. Dr. Kushmerick's publications on these topics have been cited more than 200 times and his 1997 Ph.D. research on wrapper induction is considered to be the seminal work in the application of machine learning techniques for web data extraction.
