Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and visionary Director of Engineering to lead our talented team of engineers. As the Director of Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our company and the technology solutions we provide. You will be responsible for leading, mentoring, and managing our engineering team, driving product development, and ensuring the successful execution of our technical roadmap.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead the efforts to define the future strategy of QL2 technology roadmap.
  • Work with a team of developers to create the tools and architecture responsible for supporting real time data collection and analytics suite
  • Identify the appropriate tools and technologies to advance existing platforms.
  • Improve current software infrastructure to support large scale growth across the enterprise.
  • Create processes and applications to help ensure data consistency and quality.
  • Identify areas of concern in the current ecosystem and derive innovative solutions.
  • Communicate effectively with Engineering teams locally and remotely.
  • Mature our existing agile processes in alignment with Product Management and your managers.
  • Develop and maintain a growth plan for Engineering that incorporates requirements from your managers, the product roadmap, scale, and other business priorities.
  • Understand the historical context behind existing team practices and drive improvements where needed.
  • Mentor and develop team leaders reporting to you.
  • Nurture a culture of transparency, pragmatism, and no ego, while scaling the Engineering organization.

You are an experienced and passionate leader who enjoys scaling Engineering organizations, processes, and people. You enjoy working cross-functionally, mentoring and growing your teams, evangelizing best practices, and planning for the long term while managing the short term.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • 10+ years in software engineering with at least 3+ years in management roles
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large scale projects
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and scale Engineering organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to hire well, leverage your network, and align your org chart with business priorities
  • Experience working with a distributed team (India preferred)
  • Strong development and automation skills with Java and scripting languages (Python, shell, etc.)
  • Experience with cloud providers (AWS preferred)
  • Database knowledge and strong SQL skills (Postgres, Snowflake)
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and time-management skills, as well as an ability to communicate effectively with staff and management
  • Experience with agile methodologies and modern software development practices
  • Ability to learn new technologies, perform competitive analysis, and provide recommendations for implementation
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team
  • Self-motivated and directed

  • Passionate about developing business solutions using cloud tools and expert at continuously learning how to manage those in an enterprise environment.
  • Previous experience in a startup environment is a plus.
